It is always an honor to be asked by another photographer to capture their special moments especially because they have an eye for capturing beautiful images themselves. Andres & Kim gave me total control and just acted like a normal couple client would. I had complete freedom to capture some fun moments with them through out various parts of lower Manhattan side. NY is one of my favorite places to shoot and it even graced us with good weather and little bit of rain to add character to our shoot.

I can't post everything as well shot alot but here's just a quick preview of what's to come.

My new blog is almost here. One fall, Mark took Jinny on a surprise trip to Vermont. There, while hiking in the Green Mountains, they reached a lookout and stopped to admire the view.

The Bride Jinny Kim, 28, physician
The Groom Mark Duncan, 30, physician
The Date March 8

Suddenly Mark pulled a ring out of his backpack, got down on his knees, and proposed. "The entire way back down the mountain, I kept tripping because I couldn't help admiring my new ring!" Jinny says. Five months later, they were married in the Oak Park church where Mark's father was a pastor. Although it was early March, the wedding festivities were awash in purples and greens in tribute to Easter and the coming spring.
-- Elizabeth Stadele
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big thanks to The Knot and their staff for featuring my work. It was the longest 6 days of my life. I've finally caught up from all the craziness of hustle & bustle at WPPI 2009 Convention. Skip Cohen and staff at RangeFinder sure do know how to put on the "Greatest Show on Earth" for weddding & portrait photographers. This was my third year attending the convention and it was a little different experience for me as I officially got to document everything through my camera. I normally do this wherever I go, but having given the privilege, I accepted the challenge and got my A-game on to cover as much of the event as I can. Well with 10,000+ in attendance, trying to be (in the words of Dane Sanders) ubiquitous was nearly impossible - even with the assistance of two other photographers (Dustin Francis & <A HREF=Kenny Nakai). After sifting through 10,000, I was able to cull it down to 1200 for submission and 200 for blog/facebook. One of the toughest thing about covering events like this is to see things from different perspectives (attendees, speakers, staff as well as for people that didn't get to attend WPPI but want to live through the experience vicariously). It was a long and laborious effort and I still have more images to edit through. But I know many of you are expecting anxiously to see the images online so I will leave you with these to share with you:

If you cannot view the slideshow above, click on this link.

Thank you WPPI for this great opportunity. Big shout to Dustin & Kenny that came to help me out. They definitely made this experience more fun. Also, big thanks to Ed Meyers at Canon for loaning me their super sick 200mm F2.0 lens!

Coming soon...
This might be my last official post on xanga. First I got to spend the afternoon in Chicago with Kurt & Leila for their engagement session (I will post about their eSession later on but I wanted to talk about something else from this shoot) Second, Canon regional rep Ed Meyers was gracious enough to loan me the beastly lens 200mm F2.0 to use for WPPI next week. So I decided to test this baby out by bringing it to this engagement session. Let's just say that this lens is sick. I've never shot anything so sharp. Granted the lens is pretty heavy and when you open your aperture to F2.0, the focusing plane becomes very shallow but the quality of image makes your jaw drop! Here's just a few images from the shoot using the new lens:

WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International)
The biggest convention for wedding & portrait photographers is just around the corner. This will be my third time attending and it looks be very promising! I'm very stoked as I will be involved with various things:

1) I will be the official photographer for this conference. Big thanks to Skip Cohen, Arlene Evans and staff for giving me this opportunity.

UPDATE:

2) Pictage - I will be speaking with Robert Evans at the Pictage booth from 12pm to 1pm on Tuesday 2/17! I'm really excited but nervous at the same time. So please come out and support me if you are free! :) Check out other line up of photographers. This is kind of a big deal for me because 2 years ago I was attending WPPI for the first time feeling very intimidated to be there and wondered if I'll ever get a chance to do something like this. The funny thing is back in May 2007, I made a blog entry about Pictage PartnerCon in Chicago - and to be humorous, I created this image to supplement my post. Little did I know it was going to be true little less than two years from now! It was fun looking back at this image so I wanted to share it with you guys. :)

3) There's more things but I don't want to bore you guys with the details. Come say hi when you see me wandering around and we can catch up!

Workshop with Joe Buissink & Jason Groupp in NY!
Two of the finest J's are coming together to have this one day, back to back workshop in NYC. Unfortunately I cannot attend due to scheduling conflict but I think it's definitely worth checking out. Click here to find out more info!

That's it for now. I'll try to blog more often! I'm still waiting for my new blog to launch soon. Have a great week!

Mastering Your Flash Workshop

Hosted by Bob & Dawn Davis

This week I had a chance to help out Bob & Dawn at their one day workshop just outside of Chicago, IL. If there's one topic that many of us struggle with I believe it is working with our flash/strobes. Bob, Canon's Explorer of Light spend the entire day with 10 photographers going into the details of working with light sources that are available to us. It was about working with the basics to create professional studio looking images. I think it's safe to say that all the attendees, at the end of the day, walked away empowered and challenged to continue to work on their craft. Most of them were extremely pleased with the results that they got and amazed at the kind of beautiful they were able to achieve with their strobes. Bob spent the first half of the day going over the flash presentation and the rest of the afternoon we got to practice different setups of light in various station as Bob went around working with each individuals. We ended the night by doing some night shoot outside then had dinner followed by a gathering at their house. I think some of us stayed until close to midnight! What a blast! We had so much.

I'm pretty sure they will have something like this again in the near future - I highly encourage those of you who need help in this area to attend this workshop. Most of my knowledge on lighting I learned from Bob in the past. I picked up a few new things at this workshop and I'm excited to discover even more things as I continue to work on my craft. Here are some behind the scenes images from that day:

Kenny Kim v3 T-shirts
They are selling like hotcakes! I spent the first half of yesterday just getting them packaged and mailing them out. I'm only selling about 100 shirts this time so order one today and support a great cause! Please see the previous post to find out how you can order.

And those of you who already purchased one, please take a photo of yourself sporting it and email them to me!
